occurred<\/a> around 9:15 a.m. on December 27, 2023. Four masked suspects emerged from a red Nissan Sentra and opened fire in broad daylight.<\/p>\n\u201cA red Nissan Sentra enters the parking lot from Saint Augustine traveling westbound,\u201d Detective Fernando Silva with the Dallas Police Department, told Fox 4 KDFW. \u201cPulled into the parking lot and four masked and covered up suspects exit the vehicle and begin shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jemarcus Irving appeared to be the intended target.<\/p>\n
Morland Smith, the second victim, was simply in the wrong place.<\/p>\n
\u201cReview of the video and talking to witnesses, it was pretty clear that Morland Smith was not the target. And it looked like Jemarcus may have been the target,\u201d Silva said. \u201cAt that point, the suspects retreat back into their vehicle and then exit the shopping center and then continue going westbound on Scyene.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police released surveillance photos showing the suspects\u2019 clothing and physical builds. The images capture their shoes, pants, and hoodies clearly enough for potential identification.<\/p>\n
Stephanie Smith continues seeking justice for her brother, Morland. She remembers him as a quiet, laid-back person who avoided trouble.<\/p>\n
\u201cMorland was laid back. He was quiet. He would joke a lot. He\u2019s never really got into any trouble or nothing like that,\u201d she said, per Fox 4.<\/p>\n
Detective Silva believes someone recognizes the suspects from the photos.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can see clothing, the style of the shoes, the pants, and the hoodies that they\u2019re wearing. Kind of gauge their height and weight, a little bit of a physical description as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s sister pleaded for witnesses to come forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you know something, please say something because people say it all the time. Because you could be in this position and somebody you know and hold back information,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
