San Francisco, Denver, and Philadelphia each saw more U-Haul equipment departing than arriving in 2024 but posted strong net gains in 2025.

At the city level, Florida again led the nation. Ocala, Florida., retained its title as the No. 1 U-Haul growth city, a distinction it also held in 2024 and 2022. Florida accounted for eight of the top 10 growth cities and 12 of the top 25 overall. North Port, Kissimmee and Clermont joined Ocala in the top five, along with Myrtle Beach, S.C. Texas placed four city propers on the list, while Idaho had two.

Several smaller cities made their U-Haul Growth Index debuts, including St. Augustine, Florida; Seguin, Texas; Leesburg, Florida; Garner, North Carolina; and Lacey, Washington.

U-Haul ranks metropolitan areas and city propers by the net gain or loss of customers who rented a one-way truck, trailer or U-Box moving container and dropped off their equipment in a different metro or city proper. Rankings include both interstate and intrastate transactions and are compiled from more than 2.5 million one-way moves annually across the U.S. and Canada.

While the rankings do not necessarily correlate directly to population or economic growth, the U-Haul Growth Index is considered an effective gauge of how well states, metros, and cities are attracting and maintaining residents.

An industry leader, U-Haul tracks migration trends through its expansive network of more than 24,000 rental locations across all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces, providing a comprehensive view of where people are moving. Founded in 1945, the veteran-founded, family-run company is celebrating 80 years of moving families to a better life and operates under a shared-use business model designed to benefit the environment.

More information, including past migration reports, is available at <a href="http://uhaul.com/about/migration" target="_blank" aria-label="Link opens in new window
