\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe PoBoy Shop in Preston Center has closed. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

The PoBoy Shop<\/a> opened this summer on Aug. 1. Barely six months later, it closed right before the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Owner Evan Meagher opened the fast-casual sandwich shop after closing his neighborhood butcher shop, Evan\u2019s Meat Market, which was a staple in Oak Lawn for two years. Here you could get muffulettas, gumbo and po\u2019 boys all made with house-prepped deli meats and locally sourced ingredients. It was AP Cajun food.<\/p>\n

Meagher even served up a Debris made with roast beef and provolone, an old-school New Orleans classic. These sandwiches had both panache and grit.<\/p>\n

And when we visited, the spot was abuzz with people carrying large bags full of to-go containers at a rather steady clip, while others hunkered down at the tables. <\/p>\n

Small businesses across Dallas are struggling<\/a> to make ends meet. Just last week, the legendary New York Sub announced it would be closing its doors after 53 years<\/a>. It\u2019s a bad time to be a sandwich.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meagher<\/a> spoke to D Magazine about the closing, saying that ultimately, the costs to maintain his standards made the model unsustainable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t willing to compromise on what made the concept special and a fan favorite, and rather than forcing something that wasn\u2019t viable long-term, I made the difficult decision to close The PoBoy Shop,\u201d Meagher told D. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The PoBoy Shop in Preston Center has closed.
