{"id":115783,"date":"2026-01-08T18:07:34","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T18:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/115783\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T18:07:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T18:07:34","slug":"murphy-municipal-court-upgraded-murphy-monitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/115783\/","title":{"rendered":"Murphy Municipal Court upgraded | Murphy Monitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City Councilmembers have unanimously approved an ordinance transitioning the municipal court to a court of record.<br \/>Assistant City Manager Jared Mayfield said at the Tuesday, Jan. 6, council meeting that the change would give the city more options against people who break local ordinances. <br \/>He said a court of record has powers similar to a district court or county court at law when it comes to enforcing health<br \/>and safety or nuisance abatement ordinances. <br \/>In other action, council rejected a site plan for 32 townhomes on the southeast corner of North Murphy Road and Betsy Lane. Mayor Scott Bradley said the Pecan Meadows development would be too densely populated.
