The San Antonio Police Department fired one of its officers last fall over allegations that he fled an accident scene after being involved in a single-car collision while intoxicated, disciplinary records show.<\/p>\n

The department hit Officer Luis Carrillo with an indefinite suspension on Oct. 23 for violating department rules by abandoning a vehicle he crashed while off duty, according to the paperwork. His actions also \u201cbrought reproach and discredit\u201d to himself and the department, the document alleges. <\/p>\n

Carrillo faced disciplinary action after on-duty SAPD officers were dispatched to deal with a single-car accident at Wurzbach Parkway and Blanco Road around 12:30 a.m. on June 11. Witnesses told police that a driver struck a median and pole along the roadway and appeared to be drunk as he abandoned the scene on foot, according to disciplinary records. <\/p>\n

The investigating officers found items in the vehicle belonging to Carrillo, including his SAPD jacket, which had both his last name and badge number written on it, the paperwork states. <\/p>\n

An hour later, an SAPD supervisor leaned Carrillo called a fellow off-duty cop to request a ride home from a spot near the accident scene, according to allegations in the report. The off-duty officer reportedly told the supervisor that Carrillo was intoxicated and admitted that he crashed his vehicle after drinking alcohol. <\/p>\n

After being told to fill out a response to his coworker\u2019s allegations, Carrillo wrote that he\u2019d gotten in to an accident after drinking and \u201cpanicked\u201d and left the scene, according to the disciplinary document.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficer Carrillo\u2019s actions render his continuance in office detrimental to effective law enforcement and the needs of the San Antonio Police Department,\u201d his suspension order states.<\/p>\n

Last year, SAPD took action against at least two other members of the force accused of driving drunk. In July, the department arrested 18-year veteran Paul Fencik<\/a> on suspicion he drove while intoxicated on the job. The following month, it launched a DWI investigation<\/a> into David McCall, a 17-year veteran who allegedly plowed his vehicle into the front yard of a house\u00a0while off duty.<\/p>\n
