The program, often referred to as \u201cschool vouchers\u201d, will allow parents to use state funds for private school tuition, tutoring, or homeschool expenses starting in the 2026\u20132027 school year.<\/p>\n
According to tutoring group General Academic, the average annual private school tuition is approximately $27,000.<\/p>\n
The Texas Education Freedom Accounts will prioritize low-income families and are projected to serve around 100,000 students statewide. <\/p>\n
Families could receive:<\/p>\n
Up to $10,500 per year for private school students<\/p>\n
Up to $30,000 per year for students with disabilities<\/p>\n
Up to $2,000 per year for homeschool students<\/p>\n
Funds will be deposited into digital wallets that families can use to pay for approved educational expenses.<\/p>\n
The program will be managed by Odyssey, a technology company partnering with the Texas Comptroller\u2019s Office to develop the system families will use to apply for and manage funds.<\/p>\n
