The new world of college football has layers that no one would’ve ever thought of before.

Like the fact that new Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby owes money to Cincinnati, the school he transferred from.

That’s what The Athletic’s Justin Williams reported on Friday: It’s $1 million due from Sorsby to the Bearcats.

Why?

Sorsby had one season left on a multi-year revenue sharing contract with Cincinnati. The buyout clause was $1 million.

He’s expected to get multiple millions at Texas Tech, and that buyout fee could also be funded from above Sorsby, if that’s how his new institution wants to handle things.

It’s obviously not something that stopped Sorsby from transferring.

He was ranked as the No. 1 QB in the transfer portal by The Athletic.

The Red Raiders will be installing him in place of Behren Morton, who exhausted his eligibility.

Texas Tech had a strong team, earning a bye in the College Football Playoff, but were shut out by Oregon in the CFP quarterfinal.

Sorsby’s job will to get the offense up to par with the top teams in the country to prevent such a disappointment from happening again.

He had to pay a price to leave Cincinnati, but his NFL Draft stock and the Red Raiders’ title hopes are both hoping it was more than worth it.
