EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 Thousands of residents in Northeast and Central El Paso are experiencing little to no water service after a \u201cvery large\u201d water main break Sunday morning, Jan. 11, according to El Paso Water.<\/p>\n

The water main break happened near the intersection of Girl Scout Way and Transmountain, near Skyline Park.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur crews have been on-site throughout the night and continue working under very challenging conditions.\u00a0The volume of water involved, the complexity of this section of the water system and freezing temperatures have made repairs difficult. This large pipeline is connected to several smaller distribution lines, and as a result of the break, approximately 15 water reservoirs in the area were drained,\u201d read the news release by EP Water.<\/p>\n

The utility company estimates that the repair of the break will take several hours or potentially up to 24 hours before water service is restored. Residents in the area who have water are encouraged to prepare by filling containers or bathtubs with water, as they might experience outages later in the day.<\/p>\n

Water tankers will be deployed to the following areas to aid impacted residents:<\/p>\n

Chisholm Park (Across from Clendenin Elementary School)<\/p>\n

While initial service restorations may happen within the next day, full repairs to the water main could take several days to complete.<\/p>\n

Posts on social media showed water rushing out from neighborhoods and flooding roadways along Dyer.<\/p>\n

In a Facebook post<\/a>, EP Water cited a 36-inch main break on Antonio Avenue, near the intersection of Dyer and Will Ruth, citing that repairs will likely take several hours. The water utility said they have recieve reports of a \u201clarge area\u201d without water or low water pressure.<\/p>\n
