The transfer portal officially opened on Jan. 2 and players have until Jan. 16 to declare their intentions to enter the portal. There are some exceptions, such as players on College Football Playoff participants getting an extra five days afer their season ends to enter, or players being able to transfer if there is a coaching change.

We are a little bit over a week into transfer portal season, which should carry on well past Jan. 16 since players don’t have to commit by that date, they just have to enter by that date. Given the elimination of the spring transfer portal window, this year’s January portal window is full of action with big names changing schools all over the place.

So far per 27Sports, Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are the only schools to land a five-star transfer. The Longhorns landed Auburn WR Cam Coleman, the Red Raiders landed Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby and the Cowboys secured North Texas QB Drew Mestemaker.

See below where local schools’ transfer classes rank so far, according to rankings from 247Sports and On3. One key difference in how the recruiting services do their rankings is that On3 factors transfers out into its rankings, which explains why the rankings are so different between two. Also of note, North Texas does not appear in On3’s rankings because On3 only ranks the top 70 classes.

Texas College Sports
