{"id":120371,"date":"2026-01-12T20:57:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T20:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/120371\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T20:57:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T20:57:11","slug":"crowd-gathers-in-downtown-lubbock-to-protest-ice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/120371\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowd gathers in downtown Lubbock to protest ICE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Crowds gathered in cities across the country, including in Lubbock, this weekend to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kltv.com\/2026\/01\/11\/lufkin-ice-out-protest-held-outside-angelina-county-courthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kltv.com\/2026\/01\/11\/lufkin-ice-out-protest-held-outside-angelina-county-courthouse\/\">Lufkin \u2018ICE Out\u2019 protest held outside of Angelina County Courthouse<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The protests came after an ICE officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/01\/09\/anger-outrage-spills-onto-minneapolis-streets-after-ice-officers-fatal-shooting-renee-good\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/01\/09\/anger-outrage-spills-onto-minneapolis-streets-after-ice-officers-fatal-shooting-renee-good\/\">shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis<\/a> last week. The crowd gathered outside of Lubbock\u2019s Citizens Tower Sunday chanted \u201cJustice for Renee\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Some people held signs calling for that justice, some held signs against the federal agency, calling for its abolishment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Defend Democracy Lubbock was one of the groups that announced participation in the Lubbock protest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Meanwhile, in Austin multiple people were detained this weekend. At one point, the Department of Public Safety used a chemical irritant to break up the crowd. Hundreds of anti-ICE demonstrations also took to the streets in Houston and San Antonio this weekend. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KCBD.
