A 15-year-old boy is in custody after police said he shot his father inside their Plano home Monday morning, turning what officers described as a family disturbance into a criminal case.<\/p>\n
Plano Police received a call of a shooting at about 8:25 a.m. on Monday in the 4500 block of Sandy Water Lane in northwest Plano, according to a statement from the Plano Police Department.<\/p>\n
Plano Police said officers were called to the home by the victim himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe caller, who was also the victim, stated that his son had shot him,\u201d said Jerry Minton, public information officer for the Plano Police.<\/p>\n
Officers said the father was hospitalized with injuries not considered life threatening. <\/p>\n
Police said the teen was still inside the home when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlmost immediately after the officers arrived, he was detained and taken into custody,\u201d Minton said.<\/p>\n
Police said the teen would be transported to the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center on Monday afternoon, where he is expected to face a judge.<\/p>\n
It remains unclear who owned the gun or how the minor gained access to it. Police confirmed the weapon was recovered.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a family issue,\u201d Minton said. \u201cDon\u2019t know the motive behind it. Just that this is a father and son issue where the son shot the father.\u201d<\/p>\n
Neighbors said they were shocked by the violence and had not noticed anything unusual before police arrived.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just saw a bunch of police vehicles outside, in the street,\u201d Karthik Mahadevan, who lives a few houses away, said.<\/p>\n
Mahadevan said the family appeared quiet.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe go for walks and might see them on the street sometimes and say hi, but we don\u2019t know them that well,\u201d Mahadevan said. \u201cIt\u2019s a little shocking and a little sad, really.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.<\/p>\n
