The college football transfer portal is in full swing as hundreds of players have declared their intentions to enter the portal and then have decided on a new home for their future.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been one of the most active teams in the transfer portal over the past two seasons. Last year, they secured the second-ranked class in the portal, which significantly benefited them this season.

Texas Tech finished the season with a record of 12-2 and won the Big 12 Championship for the first time. The Red Raiders also made their inaugural appearance in the College Football Playoff. However, their postseason journey was short-lived, as they lost 23-0 to the Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinals after receiving a bye. Now they are working on the 2026 transfer portal class, and they got a big addition on Monday.

Former Auburn Tigers wide receiver Malcolm Simmons has committed to Texas Tech. The former four-star recruit completed his Auburn career with 908 yards and five touchdowns over two seasons. He and Cam Coleman, who transferred to the Texas Longhorns, formed one of the most dynamic young wide receiver duos in the country.

Simmons’ commitment immediately raises the ceiling of Texas Tech’s passing game and reinforces the program’s growing reputation as a transfer-friendly destination. With defenses already forced to account for multiple returning weapons, Simmons adds another explosive option capable of stretching the field and creating matchup problems on the perimeter.

The move also signals that Texas Tech isn’t approaching its Big 12 title as a one-year peak. Instead, the Red Raiders are clearly intent on sustaining contention, using the portal to replace outgoing talent with proven production. As roster turnover accelerates across the sport, Texas Tech continues to operate with urgency, and Simmons’ arrival suggests they aren’t done yet.
