As fear and anger grow<\/a> over Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u2019s aggressive sweeps in blue cities, one Democrat running to be Bexar County\u2019s next district attorney is pledging to investigate the agency if he\u2019s elected.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the only candidate saying we\u2019re going to investigate ICE,\u201d Bexar County DA candidate Shannon Locke said Sunday at a Democratic campaign event in the Alamo City. \u201cIf Donald Trump or Greg Abbott brings that here, we\u2019re going to investigate them to the fullest extent of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

The board-certified criminal defense attorney made the comments during a rally at Southtown\u2019s Taco Haven for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, a Dallas Democrat running against Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. <\/p>\n

\u201cBeing the district attorney means protecting our most vulnerable residents,\u201d Locke told the Current. \u201cNo targets. No favors. Justice for all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Locke\u2019s comments came the day after hundreds took to downtown San Antonio streets<\/a> to protest masked ICE agent Jonathan Ross\u2019 slaying of 37-year-old Minneapolis woman Renee Good. Residents of U.S. cities nationwide staged similar demonstrations over the weekend<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In Minneapolis, ICE agents have been caught on video<\/a> overseeing checkpoints, conducting operations at schools, raiding restaurants and even detaining a DoorDash driver<\/a>.<\/p>\n

San Antonio City Council will hold a public meeting<\/a> on ICE\u2019s presence here at 1 p.m. Jan. 22 at the City Council Chambers.<\/p>\n
