ARLINGTON, Texas (WFAA) – The saying goes \u201ceverything is bigger in Texas,\u201d and that certainly applies to one of the state\u2019s newest residents: a baby born at nearly 13 pounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy favorite one is his little wrist roll right here,\u201d Markie Smith said.<\/p>\n
Smith learned recently that life is full of surprises.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s just wild,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
Smith\u2019s delivery was expected, but the way the birth room erupted was not.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody, the whole room just was like, \u2018Oh my god. Like, what, what, what?\u2019\u201d Smith said. \u201cThey pulled the curtain down and he was just massive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her giant baby boy, born in Arlington, weighed in at nearly 13 pounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust rolls for days. I was in shock; I couldn\u2019t believe it. Like, he looks like the Michelin Man,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
His pre-picked name, Canyon, turned out to be the perfect fit.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s my chunky boy,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
He now goes by Grand Canyon.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have gestational diabetes. You\u2019re expected to have a larger baby, but my last two were 8.5 pounds, both,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I was expecting maybe a 10-pound baby, but definitely not a 12-pound baby.\u201d<\/p>\n
Twelve pounds, 10.5 ounces, to be exact.<\/p>\n
\u201cHere\u2019s his fat rolls. He\u2019s a good boy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
And he\u2019s perfectly healthy.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s three weeks old, wearing three-month-old clothes,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
He was a bundle of joy arriving via C-section just days before Christmas during a time the mother from Azle, Texas, needed him most.<\/p>\n
\u201cGod blessed me with this baby, and I was going through some hardships last year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
There was the loss of her mom and a bad breakup, but the love around Canyon\u2019s arrival marks a new day.<\/p>\n
\u201cLiterally, he saved my life,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
A Texas-sized baby, she said, was a Christmas miracle.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike, who has a 13-pound baby? Like, what?\u201d Smith said. \u201cI just don\u2019t understand. I didn\u2019t think babies got this big.\u201d<\/p>\n
The average weight for a full-term baby is around seven pounds.<\/p>\n
