CORPUS CHRISTI, TX \u2013 At today\u2019s regularly scheduled Corpus Christi City Council meeting, the City Council approved a 30-year agreement to supply recycled water from the Greenwood Wastewater Treatment Plant to Valero Refining-Texas, L.P.<\/p>\n
The agreement enables the city to supply up to 8 million gallons per day (MGD) of Type II reclaimed water for Valero\u2019s industrial operations, thereby supporting regional water conservation efforts and reducing demand on potable water supplies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe agreement formalizes the City\u2019s commitment to diversify its water supply portfolio by providing reclaimed water for industrial use, which benefits the overall system by decreasing the demand of potable water,\u201d said Nicholas Winkelmann, Corpus Christi Water Interim Chief Operating Officer. <\/p>\n
Under the agreement, the City will initially make up to 3 MGD of recycled water from the Greenwood Wastewater Treatment Plant available. An additional 5 MGD or 8 MGD total will be available after the completion of additional infrastructure improvements.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Valero will pay the City\u2019s raw water cost adjustment rate for metered recycled water and will reimburse the City for chemicals, electricity, and mutually agreed-upon treatment processes. Valero will also pay its proportional share of operation and maintenance costs.<\/p>\n
The agreement term is 30 years from the delivery commencement date, with mutual extension options and five-year compliance reviews to ensure alignment with evolving regulatory requirements. <\/p>\n
