EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A Mexican infrastructure company is pushing for a proposal for a binational tram that would connect the El Paso and Ciudad Ju\u00e1rez airports to ease travel for residents of both sides of the border. <\/p>\n
Desarrollo Econ\u00f3mico del Norte (DENAC) is proposing the project, \u201cJu\u00e1rez-El Paso Express Tram\u201d, as a transportation system looking to connect both airports.<\/p>\n
H\u00e9ctor N\u00fa\u00f1ez who is the president of DENAC said the purpose of this project is to enable more destinations for international flights with the ease and convenience of domestic flights, but this will be for a particular type of traveler.<\/p>\n
Nunez said this project would benefit both cities economically. <\/p>\n
DENAC said the project is to serve travelers who look for security, comfort, efficiency and save time when traveling, rather than having to wait in long lines at the ports of entry. <\/p>\n
Ciudad Juarez Mayor Cruz P\u00e9rez Cu\u00e9llar spoke about the proposal project during his weekly press conference.<\/p>\n
He said he supports the proposal but said his main concern is funding and said he is working with the company about finding a source of funding. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea is very good, but it surely is very costly. The cost exceeds the budget, if we can contribute in any way we are willing to collaborate. We don\u2019t have the resources as a municipality and are working with him to find a funding source,” said P\u00e9rez Cu\u00e9llar.<\/p>\n
DENAC officials said the project would include migratory stations. <\/p>\n
It’s unknown if any El Paso leaders support the project. <\/p>\n
