A two-mile stretch of roadway in North Texas will soon be known as Charlie Kirk<\/a> Memorial Parkway in honor of the late conservative activist. <\/p>\n

Commissioners in Hood County<\/a> issued a proclamation Tuesday to dedicate Williamson Road, just south of Granbury, for Kirk, who was assassinated last year. Granbury is about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth<\/a>. A ceremony is scheduled for next month.<\/p>\n

The proclamation says Kirk, who was raised in a Chicago suburb, was \u201ca steadfast voice for moral clarity and truth in public discourse\u201d and that he leaves \u201cbehind a legacy of bold leadership, passionate advocacy, and unwavering commitment to the ideals that define the American spirit.\u201d The roadway, according to the proclamation, will ensure that \u201clegacy continues to inspire future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hood County Judge Ron Massingill did not respond to phone calls Tuesday from The Dallas Morning News.<\/p>\n

Kirk was shot and killed in September<\/a> while speaking at a university in Utah. The 31-year-old staunch supporter of President Donald Trump<\/a> founded Turning Point USA as a teenager and was lauded for helping organize and galvanize young Republicans.<\/p>\n

His death unleashed an avalanche of fury and sorrow, with some Republican leaders racing to honor Kirk. Trump issued a National Day of Remembrance for Kirk, and towns from California to Florida have renamed roads for the activist.<\/p>\n

This appears to be the first Texas road dedicated to Kirk, although petitions have circulated in several other towns to rename streets. <\/p>\n

In Texas, Rep. Jeff Leach<\/a> has pledged to dedicate his first bill of the next regular legislative session to erecting a statue of Kirk on the grounds around the Capitol in Austin. Lawmakers are set to convene next in January 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharlie Kirk isn\u2019t just a conservative activist \u2014 he is a civil rights icon,\u201c Leach, R-Allen, posted last year on X<\/a>. \u201cAnd he should be honored and recognized accordingly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kirk critics have pushed back against the effort and accused leaders of wasting tax dollars and glorifying a divisive figure.<\/p>\n
