Some folks never got over the way his tenure ended in Lubbock, much like others still wrestle emotionally with the Mike Leach era. That’s fine. College football fandom is deeply personal, and grudges tend to linger longer than win-loss records.

For me, sticking with Kliff isn’t about nostalgia—it’s about style, identity, and timing. I loved his offense. I loved the energy. And I loved the fact that he helped drag Texas Tech football into a more modern, nationally relevant, and frankly cooler era. Even when the results didn’t always match the hype, the product on the field was exciting, fast, and fun to watch. That matters more to me than grinding out “respectable” seasons with no personality.

Like a lot of sports fans, I’ve had my phases. I was a Steelers fan back in the days of Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier. I followed the Cardinals when Conrad Dobler was making headlines. I rode along with the Chargers when Dan Fouts was lighting it up. Sports fandom isn’t always permanent—it’s seasonal, emotional, and often tied to players or styles that resonate with you.

For me, Kingsbury’s Texas Tech connection as a former quarterback sealed the deal. He felt like one of ours. And while there’s been some chatter online about bringing him back to Lubbock as an offensive coordinator, that ship has sailed. Kliff has clearly outgrown the college coordinator role.

Kliff Kingsbury’s Next NFL Opportunity

Right now, Kingsbury is interviewing for NFL head coaching positions, and that’s where he belongs. With the Dallas Cowboys spinning their wheels and the Kansas City Chiefs no longer looking invincible, the league feels wide open. Kingsbury has reportedly interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans. Even if neither job works out and he spends another year or two as an assistant, the trajectory is clear.

Read More: Where Are Texas Tech Athletes When Not Competing In Lubbock?

Personally, I’d love to see Kliff back in the big chair. The NFL thrives on innovation, and Kingsbury’s offensive mind still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

How To Have The Best Time At Lubbock’s Beautiful Buddy Holly Hall

Lubbock’s beautiful Buddy Holly Hall hosts all types of events- from comedy, Broadway, live music, and more!
