(Photo by Rick Kern\/Getty Images for Dallas Area Rapid Transit) <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">DALLAS &#8211; Right now, voters in five north Texas cities will have until May 2nd to decide whether to leave DART all together.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Not just trimming services, but leaving immediately.\u00a0DART officials made that very clear today.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">The cities at play include University Park, Highland Park, Irving, Farmers Branch and Plano. And it\u2019ll be an almost immediate transition.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">DART officials say that once the vote is cast and the decision is made, services will shut down, buses will stop, and all of it will go away.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/dart-free-rides.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Local perspective:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">This won\u2019t just impact people living in these cities.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">DART says it\u2019ll also impact people traveling through them or at least trying to because trips are connected.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">\u00a0&#8220;Generally, the services would continue, but they&#8217;d either be shortened or stops would be discontinued,&#8221; Rob Smith, VP of Service Planning &amp; Scheduling for DART said. &#8220;Initially, we&#8217;d continue. Then the longer term, look at the financial situation.
