CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 San Diego Independent School District leaders hosted a public hearing Wednesday night to address the collapse of the frame of the district\u2019s multi-purpose facility, a project that has been stalled since the incident occurred in November.<\/p>\n
Contractors involved in the project faced questions from both district leaders and community members, many of whom came to the meeting demanding accountability.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, tension rose as board members pressed contractors for answers about what led to the collapse.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously something went wrong, you know\u2014\u201d a spokesperson for Pentagon said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cA building doesn\u2019t just fall on its own,\u201d a board member responded. \u201cYou can\u2019t say it just fell. There\u2019s a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n
The discussion centered on oversight and responsibility for the project. District leaders heard from representatives of Pentagon, the company hired to construct the facility, as well as Mu\u00f1oz Engineering.<\/p>\n
Questions were directed at Ramiro Mu\u00f1oz, president of Mu\u00f1oz Engineering, about whether the project was properly supervised during construction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn that duration, there is a gap that relies on the PND manufacturer and the erector to do their job,\u201d Mu\u00f1oz said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid they do their job?\u201d an audience member asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, that\u2019s an obvious answer,\u201d Mu\u00f1oz replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe obvious answer is no,\u201d the audience member said.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight,\u201d Mu\u00f1oz responded.<\/p>\n
San Diego ISD board trustee Anthony Vela also questioned the legitimacy of holding the public hearing, saying there are still too many unanswered questions surrounding the collapse.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo discuss the frame collapse and an insurance update \u2014 you don\u2019t have any of that information, do you?\u201d Vela asked.<\/p>\n
The Pentagon spokesperson responded, \u201cNo, I\u2019m still waiting on the investigation. Until the insurance tells me what they found for the cause, I don\u2019t have an answer for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vela then asked, \u201cSo are we going to have another meeting so they can get all that information, or?\u201d<\/p>\n
