San Antonio City Council will hold a public comment session this Wednesday at 5 p.m. for residents to voice concerns over Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u2019s (ICE) increased Alamo City presence. <\/p>\n

The session will take place in City Council Chambers, 100 Military Plaza, and it\u2019s separate from a special meeting<\/a> council will hold Thursday, Jan. 22, to discuss ICE operations and the extent to which San Antonio police are obligated to participate in them. <\/p>\n

Concern is building in San Antonio and other cities nationwide about aggressive ICE immigration sweeps ordered by the Trump administration. Last week, a masked ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Minneapolis mother Renee Good, triggering large demonstrations<\/a> in San Antonio and other metros over the weekend.<\/p>\n

In a Tuesday Instagram post, the San Antonio Chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation \u2014\u00a0one of the organizers of recent anti-ICE demonstrations \u2014\u00a0called on people concerned about the federal immigration crackdown to pack City Council chambers on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

Those who wish to speak at Wednesday\u2019s meeting may register anytime before 4:30 p.m. on the City of San Antonio\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PSL has urged the city to enact new safeguards to curb ICE actions in San Antonio and ensure more transparency. The group has demanded that criminal warrant be issued before any city resources are used to support local ICE operations. It also wants public reporting 72 hours prior to any joint enforcement operation and for the city to require federal agencies to provide visible identification, advance warrant disclosure and post-operation reporting.<\/p>\n
