{"id":124440,"date":"2026-01-15T15:53:45","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T15:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/124440\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T15:53:45","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T15:53:45","slug":"making-prom-dreams-come-true","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/124440\/","title":{"rendered":"Making prom dreams come true"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The closet will open for shopping from Feb. 24 to 28 and March 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 1401 Mira Vista Boulevard in Plano.<\/p>\n<p>The 17th Annual Prom Closet at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano will open next month to help girls from anywhere in need of a free prom dress, shoes and accessories.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To make these dreams possible, the community is invited to donate dresses (sizes 0\u201330), jewelry, shoes, handbags, and wraps to help complete every girl\u2019s prom look for her special night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re calling on our community to help make prom dreams come true by donating dresses and accessories,\u201d said Kathy Moore, organizer of the St. Andrew Prom Closet, which provides a unique shopping experience for young women who might otherwise be unable to attend prom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart the New Year by cleaning out your closet and bringing us your gently used dresses, shoes, jewelry, and handbags! You can also purchase new items through our Amazon Shopping Link,\u201d Moore said. \u201cEach year, we rely on the generosity of individuals, local groups, and businesses to make every girl\u2019s experience truly magical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The closet will open for shopping from Feb. 24 to 28 and March 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 1401 Mira Vista Boulevard in Plano.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments are required to improve the overall experience and minimize wait times. Online registration for shoppers as well as volunteers begins January 26. Each shopper must be present to select her own dress and accessories and may have one guest, age 16 or older. A volunteer will assist each girl throughout the process, and there will be 40 shopping spots per each 90-minute time slot.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Prom Closet, a service of the St. Andrew Methodist Women, provided prom attire to 1,323 girls from 322 schools and 110 school districts.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Prom Closet has welcomed girls from across Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma as well as exchange students from France, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Thailand. A total of 1,324 volunteers came together last year to help make prom dreams come true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dedication of these women \u2014 and the many volunteers who join them \u2014 goes far beyond organizing dresses,\u201d said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew. \u201cThey create an environment where every girl feels loved, valued, and beautiful. Their faith and compassion shine through in everything they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All donations may be dropped off just inside the church\u2019s north entry doors on a designated dress rack.
