One of the most iconic neighborhoods in Lubbock happens to be Tech Terrace. I mean, it makes sense, right? It’s near the center of the city, it’s right next to Texas Tech, and it’s one of the highest areas of traffic for newcomers to our great city.<\/p>\n

But every neighborhood has its fair share of crime, and Tech Terrace is no exception with its D-rating according to Crime Grade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How Often do Crimes Happen\u00a0in Tech Terrace?<\/p>\n

According to the data-gathering site, Tech Terrace is safer than 30% of Texas neighborhoods, but less safe than 70% of others throughout the state.<\/p>\n

Why is this? Well, the violent crime rate <\/a>for this neighborhood alone is reportedly 6.228 for every 1,000 residents in an average year. It’s also generally agreed that the northern side of the neighborhood is the safest.<\/p>\n

This means that your chance of being a victim to a violent crime in Tech Terrace ranges from 1 in 81 the more south you live within the boundary, to 1 in 270 the more north you live.<\/p>\n

What is the Cost of Crime in Tech Terrace?<\/p>\n

In 2025, the total cost of crime<\/a> is estimated to have been $1,987,016, according to Crime Grade. That’s roughly $685 per resident or $1,524 per household.<\/p>\n

Here’s the breakdown<\/a> of the more serious\u00a0crimes and how much they are costing the neighborhood in Lubbock:<\/p>\n

Murder – $476 per residentSexual Assault – $66 per residentRobbery – $29 per residentAssault – $114 per resident<\/p>\n

Based\u00a0on the four crimes previously mentioned and their rate of 6.228 for every 1,000 residents, Tech Terrace has received the overall crime rating of D+. Not the worst, but certainly could and should be better.<\/p>\n
