A group of Buddhist monks walking across the U.S. to promote
\npeace has arrived in North Carolina.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday night, the monks\u2019 Facebook page stated they
\narrived in Charlotte as part of the \u201cWalk For Peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you so much to the thousands of people who welcomed
\nus [Wednesday] night in Charlotte,\u201d the Facebook post reads<\/a>. \u201cYour
\nlove, your flowers, your presence\u2014all of it touched our hearts deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n

The monks are expected to arrive in Greensboro as early as Monday.
\nThey are scheduled
\nto arrive in Raleigh on Jan. 24<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The \u201cWalk For Peace\u201d Facebook page states the proper way to
\ngreet the monks is by placing your palms together and bowing to them.<\/p>\n

People are asked to avoid physical contact with monks like a
\nhug or a handshake unless a monk extends an invitation to do so. Also, \u201cWalk
\nFor Peace\u201d said it is a sign of respect to avoid eye contact or respond.<\/p>\n

Crowds are asked to move to the side of the road as the monks
\npass through.<\/p>\n

The monks\u2019 journey
\nbegan Oct. 26, 2025<\/a>, at a Vietnamese Buddhist temple in Texas, and is
\nscheduled to end in mid-February in Washington, D.C., where they will ask
\nCongress to recognize Buddha\u2019s day of birth and enlightenment as a federal
\nholiday. Beyond promoting peace, their highest priority is connecting with
\npeople along the way.<\/p>\n

Preferring to sleep each night in tents pitched outdoors,
\nthe monks have been surprised to see their message transcend ideologies,
\ndrawing huge crowds into churchyards, city halls and town squares across six
\nstates. Documenting their journey on social media, they \u2014 and their dog, Aloka
\n\u2014 have racked up millions of followers online.<\/p>\n
