Mobile mixed-reality simulations give students a hands-on look at Navy careers and technology.<\/p>\n
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 The U.S. Navy brought its \u201cStrike Group\u201d mobile mixed-reality experience to Flour Bluff High School on Friday, giving students an up-close look at the breadth of science, technology, engineering and math careers available in the Navy.<\/p>\n
The multi-scenario experience uses leading-edge mixed reality to immerse students in the teamwork and advanced technology that define Navy operations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Petty Officer Second Class Ernesto Delgadillo said the visit also gives students who may be unfamiliar with military life an opportunity to explore it in an interactive and approachable way.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of students don\u2019t really know what it\u2019s like to be in the military,\u201d Delgadillo said. \u201cThis gives them a chance to see it firsthand and decide if it\u2019s something they might want to pursue in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cStrike Group\u201d experience includes three interactive challenges.<\/p>\n
In the \u201cAll Hands\u201d scenario, students work together in a mixed-reality game aboard an aircraft carrier, taking on roles ranging from refueling aircraft to piloting an F-35C Lightning II jet.<\/p>\n
Another station, called \u201cSupport,\u201d focuses on the Navy\u2019s humanitarian missions around the world, allowing students to explore how ships and aircraft deliver aid while learning about related career paths.<\/p>\n
Lastly students also had the opportunity to take part in \u201cFly,\u201d a full-motion flight simulator that places participants in the cockpit of an F-35C, launching from and landing on an aircraft carrier during a training mission.<\/p>\n
Delgadillo said the activities encourage students to step out of their comfort zones while learning about the Navy\u2019s core values of honor, courage and commitment.<\/p>\n
He said he hopes that students leave with a better understanding of what service in the Navy and the military involves, regardless of the career path they ultimately choose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mobile mixed-reality simulations give students a hands-on look at Navy careers and technology.
