The Dock Bookshop is a black-owned bookstore\u00a0located\u00a0about 13\u00a0minutes from Texas Wesleyan University. On\u00a0Martin Luther King Jr. Day\u00a0(MLK Day),\u00a0they\u00a0will be hosting an event from 3 p.m.\u00a0to\u00a07 p.m. for the Fort Worth community.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

At 3 p.m. there will be a designated family time dedicated to stories, arts and crafts, activities,\u00a0refreshments\u00a0and film. At 5 p.m. there will be\u00a0a\u00a0community conversation titled,\u00a0\u201cWhere Do We Go from Here?\u201d\u2014a\u00a0thought-provoking\u00a0discussion inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr\u00a0and the ongoing civil rights struggle.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Dock Bookstore will also host an open mic\u00a0night\u00a0in celebration of\u00a0MLK\u00a0day\u00a0from\u00a07:30 p.m.\u00a0to 10 p.m.\u00a0on Tuesday,\u00a0Jan.\u00a020.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cowboys of Color Rodeo-\u00a0Dickies Arena-\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

In lieu of Fort Worth\u2019s\u00a0rodeo season,\u00a0the\u00a0Cowboys of Color\u00a0rodeo\u00a0has been an event\u00a0that highlights and celebrates\u00a0the life of Martin Luther King\u00a0since 2010 and is the largest multicultural rodeo in the world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Beginning at 2 p.m. on\u00a0MLK\u00a0Day, this is a traditional rodeo with events such as bull riding and calf roping.\u00a0The carnival midway will also be open for\u00a0MLK\u00a0Day from 10\u00a0a.m. to 10 p.m. with rides, games,\u00a0prizes\u00a0and food.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Greater Fort Worth Martin Luther King\u00a0Jr.\u00a0\u00a0Holiday Committee Parade and Rally\u2013\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The downtown Fort Worth parade is set to begin at 11\u00a0a.m. near the Fort Worth Convention Center located on 9th\u00a0and Main Street.\u00a0There will be buses and floats to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Arlington\u00a0Happenings\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The city of Arlington will be hosting the\u00a0\u201cMLK Advancing the Dream Celebration,\u201d\u00a0a four-day series of\u00a0events from Jan.\u00a016through19.\u00a0Here are a few of them:\u00a0<\/p>\n

MLK Poetry meets Blues and R&B\u2013 This event will take place on Jan.\u00a017\u00a0at 7:00 p.m.\u00a0in the Bluebonnet Ballroom at UTA\u2019s\u00a0E.H Hereford University.\u00a0This will be a night of soulful performances\u00a0and inspiring\u00a0poetry\u00a0honoring\u00a0MLK\u2019s\u00a0legacy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

MLK Day of\u00a0Service Festival sponsored by the Dallas Wings\u2013 This is a free\u00a0family focused\u00a0event\u00a0located\u00a0at\u00a0City Center Plaza on\u00a0Jan.19\u00a0from\u00a010 a.m. to 2 p.m.\u202fThis event will\u00a0celebrate\u00a0the\u00a0contributions of\u00a0Arlington\u00a0MLK volunteers\u00a0and\u00a0showcase\u00a0talent from\u00a0local\u00a0dance\u00a0groups\u00a0and bands.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

MLK Historical Timeline Exhibit\u2013 This\u00a0is a\u00a0travelling\u00a0exhibit\u00a0provided in part by Tarrant County College\u00a0that will be\u00a0on display at each\u00a0of the\u00a0\u201cMLK Advancing\u00a0the Dream\u201d\u00a0celebrations.
