LUBBOCK, Texas\u2013 The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up day one of the Corky Classic Friday evening inside the Sports Performance Center, highlighted by Antoine Andrews<\/a> taking the world lead in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.49.<\/p>\n

Andrews improved his time each outing Friday evening. He opened his season with a 7.66 in the first round before going 7.57 in the semifinals. He capped it off with a 7.49 \u2013 his first sub-7.50 time in his career \u2013 for the win. His time as of tonight is No. 1 in the world and NCAA. It also goes down as No. 2 in Tech history, only behind his current teammate, Malachi Snow<\/a>, who holds the record at 7.46. In the process, Andrews ties the Bahamian national record.<\/p>\n

In the women’s 60m hurdles, Tonie-Ann Forbes<\/a> shined recording a new PB time of 8.08 as she took home the win for the women’s team. It was the first time in her career the junior ran under 8.10 seconds. Forbes was lined up next to Jaiyah Covington (8.13) from Texas A&M, the defending NCAA Indoor champion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sean Gribble<\/a> secured the first win for Tech as he won the pole vault competition clearing 5.53m (18-1 \u00be). Over in the 60m sprint, two Red Raiders defended home territory. Success Umukoro<\/a> posted a 7.25 before Shawn Brown<\/a> went 6.56 a few mins later.<\/p>\n

Mekenze Kelley<\/a> opened her season in the 300m with a time of 37.13, taking the best overall time Friday night. Newcomer, Anita Afrifa<\/a> took second clocking in at 37.18.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lovina Ewusi<\/a> set her 400m indoor PB by two seconds running 53.88.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tamiah Washington<\/a> registered a lifetime best in the long jump leaping 6.32m (20-9) as she took 3rd place.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kashlee Dickinson<\/a> placed 2nd clearing 4.21m (13-9 \u00be).<\/p>\n
