The cause of death is believed to be suicide, although the investigation is still ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>El Paso ICE Detainee Who Died in Custody<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/news\/releases\/ice-reports-death-illegal-alien-custody-el-paso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">36-year-old Victor Manuel Diaz<\/a> from Nicaragua first entered ICE custody when officers discovered his undocumented presence in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 6 of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Read More: <a href=\"https:\/\/kfyo.com\/texas-police-codes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Texas Police Codes You should Definitely Know<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Diaz first illegally entered the U.S. on March 26, 2024 when border agents along the U.S.-Mexico border served him a notice to appear in court after processing his information.<\/p>\n<p>Over one year later on August 26, 2025, an immigration judge ordered him to be removed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/in_absentia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">absentia<\/a>. This means that the order was given without Diaz being present in the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>On January 12, 2026, ICE detained him pending his removal from the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Cause of Death: Apparent Suicide<\/p>\n<p>Security staff at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/detain\/detention-facilities\/camp-east-montana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Camp East Montana<\/a> in El Paso found Diaz unconscious in his room at 3:35 p.m. on January 14.
