{"id":130614,"date":"2026-01-20T17:46:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T17:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/130614\/"},"modified":"2026-01-20T17:46:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T17:46:08","slug":"february-finish-planned-for-sherrill-veterans-memorial-parks-first-phase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/130614\/","title":{"rendered":"February finish planned for Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park\u2019s first phase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 With special events and the nation\u2019s 250th Independence Day approaching, city officials say Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park is nearing the end of its first phase of construction, making it ready for upcoming public events.<\/p>\n<p>The concern over the park\u2019s progress was raised by a KRIS 6 viewer, who emailed KRIS 6 News after noticing that while <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kristv.com\/news\/local-news\/in-your-neighborhood\/corpus-christi\/bay-area\/new-installation-at-sherrill-park-to-honor-our-armed-forces\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the U.S. Army Bell Huey helicopter was installed at the park last September,<\/a> fencing had kept much of the park off-limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve noticed the slow progress on construction at Sherrill Park and are wondering if it will be finished in time for Memorial Day this year,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Dodd, director of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation, said crews are currently completing ADA-accessible walking paths and ground improvements, with fencing expected to come down in February.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of the park\u2019s master plan, funded by the 2024 bond, includes about 8,200 square feet of new pathways, lighting to highlight the helicopter, and LED illumination for the park\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis helicopter\u2019s been a long process.
