LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Tuesday: A surface low will bring breezy south to southwest winds to the South Plains Tuesday afternoon. Afternoon highs will warm into the low 50s area-wide as the system moves through.<\/p>\n

Wednesday: A cold front will move through early Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning lows will dip into the 20s on the Caprock and low to mid-30s across the Rolling Plains. Afternoon highs will remain in the 50s as the front pushes eastward.<\/p>\n

Friday: The Arctic front arrives with strong winds from the south to southwest ahead of the system. Afternoon highs will briefly warm before the front moves through, bringing a dramatic temperature drop as the day progresses.<\/p>\n

Saturday: High temperatures will only reach the mid-20s with low temperatures in the upper single digits to lower teens. Below-zero wind chills are possible.<\/p>\n

Sunday: Similar conditions continue with lows in the upper single digits to lower teens and sub-zero wind chills possible.<\/p>\n

Early next week: Near-normal temperatures return as the system exits by late Sunday.<\/p>\n

Wintry Precipitation Possible<\/p>\n

An upper-level storm system moving over the Arctic cold front Friday into Saturday will bring the possibility of wintry precipitation, though the exact timing, type and amounts remain uncertain.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re looking at an increasing potential for dangerous travel conditions this weekend for the entire forecast area. <\/p>\n

While confidence is increasing for wintry precipitation Friday into Saturday, details about the extent, duration and type of precipitation have yet to be determined.<\/p>\n

Irrespective of the precipitation type, with temperatures as cold as we are forecasting, precipitation of any kind will most certainly cause issues for travel and commerce.<\/p>\n
