{"id":130996,"date":"2026-01-20T22:29:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T22:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/130996\/"},"modified":"2026-01-20T22:29:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T22:29:07","slug":"giants-hopeful-about-healthy-returns-of-nabers-skattebo-this-offseason","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/130996\/","title":{"rendered":"Giants hopeful about healthy returns of Nabers, Skattebo this offseason"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giants.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Giants<\/a> hope to have two of their top playmakers back in the mix this offseason.<\/p>\n<p>General manager Joe Schoen expressed optimism about wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/N\/NabeMa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Malik Nabers<\/a> and running back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SkatCa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cam Skattebo<\/a>, both of whom are recovering from season-ending leg injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMalik is trending to hopefully be ready for training camp,\u201d Schoen said Tuesday after new head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/01\/20\/chris-mara-giants-ownership-dynamic-harbaugh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">John Harbaugh\u2019s introductory press conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if Nabers, who tore the ACL in his right knee in late September, is on track for the start of training camp, Schoen replied, \u201cThings can change, but that\u2019s the hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Training camp typically begins in late July.<\/p>\n<p>Schoen\u2019s update came about two weeks after Nabers said he was \u201cnot really sure\u201d if he would be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 regular season.<\/p>\n<p>The star wide receiver used a cane as a precaution during the Giants\u2019 season finale at MetLife Stadium on Jan. 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf my body doesn\u2019t feel right, then I\u2019m not going to go out there,\u201d Nabers said on Jan. 5.<\/p>\n<p>Nabers, 22, quickly emerged as a go-to weapon during his rookie season in 2024, when he totaled 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.<\/p>\n<p>He finished with 18 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games last year.<\/p>\n<p>Nabers is the No. 1 receiver for a Giants unit in which Wan\u2019Dale Robinson \u2014 who led the team with 92 receptions and 1,014 yards in 2025 \u2014 is set to become a free agent. The Giants could build out that group by taking a receiver with the No. 5 pick in April\u2019s draft, with Ohio State\u2019s Carnell Tate and Arizona State\u2019s Jordyn Tyson considered the top prospects.<\/p>\n<p>Harbaugh said Tuesday that he spoke with Nabers over the phone while the latter was rehabbing in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just love talking to him, his joy, his excitement,\u201d Harbaugh said, adding, \u201cHad a lot of really good ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Giants expect an earlier return from Skattebo, who sustained a dislocated right ankle, a fibula fracture and a deltoid ligament rupture in late October, requiring emergency surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019ll be fine,\u201d Schoen said Tuesday. \u201cHe\u2019ll actually be prepared for the offseason program on April 6. He should be good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That timeline is even earlier than the one Skattebo, 23, suggested earlier this month, when he expressed optimism he would be ready for training camp, if not OTAs.<\/p>\n<p>Skattebo rushed for 410 yards and totaled seven touchdowns in eight games as a rookie last season, during which he became a fan favorite thanks to his physical style of play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime\u2019s gonna tell, but [I will] take it easy,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cI\u2019ve got plenty of time to get back to it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Giants hope to have two of their top playmakers back in the mix this offseason.
