The Odem ISD school board passed a vote on Tuesday night to terminate the contracts of two coaches who were allegedly on a school bus when a student was assaulted.<\/p>\n

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 The Odem-Edroy Independent School District School Board gathered on Tuesday night to determine the future of two coaches who were allegedly on a school bus when a student was assaulted<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Though not unanimous, the board decided to terminate the employment of both coaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Superintendent Yolanda Carr told 3NEWS that Odem-Edroy ISD would be releasing a statement on Tuesday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In early January, Odem-Edroy ISD terminated one coach and placed the others on paid administrative leave following a reported sexual assault aboard a district school bus returning from a basketball game in Hebbronville<\/a> in December.<\/p>\n

Carr said personnel actions were taken as the District conducts its own internal investigation into the incident and that they want to remain as transparent as possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera said the incident occurred Dec. 9 while students were riding an Odem-Edroy ISD bus back to Odem. Rivera said a juvenile student was assaulted during the trip.<\/p>\n

Rivera said a warrant was issued for Christopher Jacob Soto, 19, an Odem-Edroy ISD student, after an investigation. Soto was arrested Jan. 4 and charged with indecency with a child, a second-degree felony. A magistrate set Soto\u2019s bond at $75,000. Soto was bonded out by his attorney Frank Gonzales, according to Rivera.<\/p>\n

Rivera said the case remains under review by the San Patricio County District Attorney\u2019s Office and that additional arrests are expected as statements and evidence continue to be reviewed.<\/p>\n
