Arlington ISD officials said they prioritize “Maximized Resources,” meaning they want both faculty and financial resources on Arlington ISD campuses where the largest possible number of students can utilize them.

In addition, officials said partial renovations over almost 70 years since the school’s opening won’t be enough to sustain a modern learning environment. A report on the Blanton facility’s condition found that, in 2025, 58% of repairs would need to be made to the structure to meet “adequacy assessment standards” for the district. That percentage has only increased since 2018, when about 33% of repairs needed to be made to uphold learning standards.

Blanton Elementary has also received an “F” rating from the TEA for the past three years. The TEA annually evaluates each public school and district in Texas from A-F, based on various factors of academic performance. If a school receives an “F” rating for five consecutive years, under state law, TEA could step in and take over the district. This would mean a state-appointed board would govern the district for at least two years.

Fort Worth ISD entered a TEA takeover in October 2025. Closing Blanton Elementary could eliminate the possibility of a TEA takeover in the next few years.

Arlington ISD officials said they will schedule additional meetings for the Blanton community to “ensure a thoughtful, supportive transition” of the school’s roughly 450 students to new campuses for the 2026-27 school year. According to their website, the schools Blanton students could be rezoned for include Burgin, Crow, Goodman and Swift elementaries.

DALLAS — The list of Texas public school districts closing campuses will continue to grow, with Arlington Independent…

[13
836,150,152,151,35957,8082,163,223,27
post-132087","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-arlington","tag-app-education","tag-arlington","tag-arlington-headlines","tag-arlington-news","tag-corinne-piorkowski","tag-dfw-what-you-need-to-know","tag-education","tag-news","tag-texas
["GET
