{"id":133651,"date":"2026-01-22T15:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T15:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/133651\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T15:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T15:52:08","slug":"houston-man-faces-federal-weapons-charges-after-fatal-metro-bus-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/133651\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston man faces federal weapons charges after fatal METRO bus shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">An 18-year-old Houston man has been charged with illegally possessing a machine gun and unlawful receipt of a firearm and ammunition following a fatal shooting on a Houston METRO bus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/08\/surveillance-photos-show-suspects-accused-of-shooting-woman-to-death-injuring-teen-on-metro-bus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/08\/surveillance-photos-show-suspects-accused-of-shooting-woman-to-death-injuring-teen-on-metro-bus\/\">Patrick Scott<\/a>, who was already in custody on related state charges, is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court at a later date. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison for possession of a machine gun and up to five years for receiving a firearm while under indictment, along with possible fines of up to $250,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The shooting happened on Jan. 7 aboard Metro Bus #2611 on Route 161 near Walnut Bend and Richmond. Two suspects, 17-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/13\/this-ends-now-suspect-in-houston-metro-bus-shooting-reprimanded-by-judge-for-rolling-eyes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/13\/this-ends-now-suspect-in-houston-metro-bus-shooting-reprimanded-by-judge-for-rolling-eyes\/\">Brayden Smith<\/a> and 18-year-old Scott, were involved in an argument when both fired guns inside the bus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Smith is charged with murder after investigators believe he fired the shot that killed a 25-year-old woman, an innocent bystander. A 16-year-old male passenger was also injured but is expected to recover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Scott, who was out on bond for a felony aggravated robbery at the time, allegedly retrieved a firearm from his backpack during the incident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Court documents indicate the gun, a 9mm Glock, was equipped with a machine gun conversion device, commonly known as a \u201cswitch.\u201d Federal prosecutors allege Scott\u2019s possession of the weapon violated bond conditions and federal law, which prohibits individuals under indictment from having firearms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">FBI Houston Special Agent in Charge Douglas Williams said, \u201cA young woman was killed and a teenager endures a long recovery because of the disregard Scott and a teen rival held for innocent lives on that bus.
