EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Pete Zamora will return as the manager of the El Paso Chihuahuas for the 2026 season, marking his third year in charge of the team and his 11th year as a manager or coach within the San Diego Padres organization. <\/p>\n
Last season, Zamora led the Chihuahuas to an 81-68 record and a second-place finish in the PCL East Division, a significant improvement from his first year when the team finished 64-86. <\/p>\n
“We look forward to Pete’s return for a third season, and we welcome the rest of the field staff to Southwest University Park. <\/p>\n
We were in the championship hunt until late in the season last year and hope to continue that on-field success in 2026 while also developing players that can help the Padres return to the playoffs,\u201d said Chihuahuas Senior Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor. \u201cPete, the staff and the team have become terrific ambassadors for El Paso through their time here and we look forward to getting the 2026 season started.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 2026 coaching staff will include pitching coach Scott Mitchell, entering his fourth year with El Paso, and assistant pitching coach Jimmy Jones, also in his fourth year with the Chihuahuas. <\/p>\n
They will be joined by hitting coach Ben Rosenthal, who is entering his first season in the Padres organization, and bench coaches Miguel Del Castillo and Morgan Burkhart.<\/p>\n
El Paso will open its season on March 27 against Sacramento. <\/p>\n
