EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Travelers without a Real ID or other acceptable identification will face new challenges at airport security checkpoints starting Feb. 1. <\/p>\n
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will implement a $45 fee for a new ID verification option, known as Confirm ID, for those who arrive without proper identification.<\/p>\n
Dave Fitz, TSA’s Texas regional spokesperson, explained the process at El Paso International Airport.<\/p>\n
“So for those that show up on February 1st without a Real ID or a compliant ID, or one of our acceptable IDs, we’re not going to turn you away,” Fitz said. “You’re going to go through a process here. We’re going to start the verification, Confirm ID is what we’re calling it.”<\/p>\n

QR codes will also be available at checkpoints to assist passengers. Until now, TSA has covered the cost of additional ID verification, but the expense will soon be transferred to travelers.In El Paso, about 5% of travelers still lack a Real ID. TSA aims for nearly 100% compliance and encourages passengers to prepare before flying.<\/p>\n
