{"id":134992,"date":"2026-01-23T12:20:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T12:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/134992\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T12:20:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T12:20:06","slug":"warming-centers-open-across-nueces-jim-wells-and-san-patricio-counties-as-extreme-cold-hits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/134992\/","title":{"rendered":"Warming centers open across Nueces, Jim Wells, and San Patricio counties as extreme cold hits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cities and counties activate overnight shelters, warming centers, free transportation, and pet accommodations during the &#8216;Extreme Cold Watch&#8217; in effect.<\/p>\n<p>CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 As cold temperatures and wind chills move into the Coastal Bend, multiple cities and counties are opening warming centers and overnight shelters to help residents stay safe.<\/p>\n<p>Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Robstown, Jim Wells County, and San Patricio County have activated cold-weather plans that include overnight refuge centers, daytime warming locations, free transportation, meals, showers, and pet accommodations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Services will remain available based on weather conditions and may\u00a0be extended\u00a0if needed.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nOvernight shelters in Corpus Christi                    <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nGood Samaritan Ministries                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 902 Nueces Bay Boulevard, it will operate under cold-weather guidelines and will accept individuals unless they have been previously banned.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Salvation Army Shelter                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 1804 Buford Street, it remains open and is operating on its regular schedule.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Mother Teresa Day Shelter                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 513 Sam Rankin Avenue, it is open Monday through Friday beginning at 7:00 a.m., with breakfast served at 8:00 a.m. Shelter clients are being informed about available overnight cold-weather shelter options.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nCorpus Christi Daytime Warming Centers                    <\/p>\n<p>The following locations are open from Tuesday to Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nLa Retama Central Library                    <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Located at\u00a0805 Comanche Street from Sunday &amp; Monday | 8 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nOwen R. Hopkins Library                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 3202 McKinzie Road from Sunday | 8 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nBen F. McDonald Library                    <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Located at\u00a04044 Greenwood Drive from Sunday | 8 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nEthel Eyerly Senior Center\u00a0                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at\u00a0654 Graham Road from Sunday | 8 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>All City libraries and senior centers are also available during regular operating hours.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nFree Transportation                    <\/p>\n<p>The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) is providing fare-free rides to and from all warming centers and overnight shelters. Riders must tell the bus operator their destination.<\/p>\n<p>City officials said police officers will also monitor residents during patrols and assist, including transportation and blankets when needed.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nRobstown Overnight Warming Center                    <\/p>\n<p>Nueces County and the City of Robstown have activated an overnight warming center in response to the extreme cold.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nRobstown Senior Community Center                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 415 Mainer Road, Robstown. Opens Saturday at 5 p.m. It will be open continuously through mid-morning Tuesday.\u00a0Cots, food, beverages provided and pets are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nJim Wells County Overnight Warming Centers                    <\/p>\n<p>Jim Wells County Emergency Management is opening multiple overnight warming centers to serve residents of Jim Wells County, Alice, Orange Grove, and Premont.<\/p>\n<p>All locations open Saturday, January 24, at 6 p.m. and will remain active through Wednesday, January 28, if needed.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nJim Wells County Fairgrounds                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 3001 S. Johnson, Alice, TX 78332\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nCross Trails Cowboy Church                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 1911 FM 624, Orange Grove, TX 78372<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nLaughlin Building                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 248 Southwest 1st Street, Premont, TX 78375<\/p>\n<p>Cots, blankets, and water will be provided. Residents are encouraged to bring additional bedding, food, and personal supplies. Pets are allowed and will\u00a0be accommodated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Free rides are available through R.E.A.L. Inc. by calling 361-668-3158.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nSan Patricio County                    <\/p>\n<p>City of Taft leaders have also opened a daytime warming center to help residents prepare for the incoming cold weather.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nKiva Hut Warming Center                    <\/p>\n<p>Located at 402 Park St, Taft, and will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, and Sunday, January 26.<\/p>\n<p>Community partners, including Hometown Soap n Sudz and Taft Mayor Elida Castillo, will be assisting by providing blankets.
