PROVO, Utah \u2013 Senior Snudda Collins<\/a> led the team with 17 points, but the No. 19 Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the BYU Cougars, 73-61, on Wednesday night at the Marriott Center.<\/p>\n

For Texas Tech (19-2, 6-2 Big 12), Collins went 5-for-12 from the field (.417) to lead the Lady Raiders with 17 points for her 18th double-digit scoring game of the season. Senior Bailey Maupin<\/a> also recorded double-digits, her team-best 19th of the year, with 11 points. She tied for the team lead in steals with two and added two assists and four rebounds against BYU (15-4, 4-3 Big 12).<\/p>\n

Junior Jalynn Bristow<\/a> posted her third double-figure rebounding game with a career-high of 11 and tallied her ninth 3+ block game this season with six. Bristow also added nine points and a steal. Senior Gemma N\u00fa\u00f1ez led the way in assists for the 14th time this year, recording a team-high of five while also going 3-for-3 from the field for eight points. In addition, she was second on the team with six rebounds.<\/p>\n

Denae Fritz<\/a> opened the game with a 3-pointer, but the Cougar responded with a 7-0 run. Maupin stopped it with a midrange jumper, then Bristow nailed a three to make it 9-8 in BYU’s favor. The Cougars scored the next five points until Collins made a jumper. BYU connected with a couple of free throws, then Collins made a triple to cut the deficit to three with 4:08 left. BYU scored four of the next five points before Bristow made a midrange bucket. The Cougars would end the quarter on a 5-0 run thanks to a couple of steals on Tech turnovers to lead 25-16 after one.<\/p>\n

Jada Malone<\/a> made two free throws to begin the second quarter. BYU responded with a layup, but N\u00fa\u00f1ez made one of her own thanks to a steal forced by Malone. Fritz then added a free throw before BYU scored again with a layup. The Cougars would go on a 6-0 run to force a Tech timeout halfway through the quarter. Out of the timeout, N\u00fa\u00f1ez made a 3-pointer to cut the BYU advantage to nine. With three minutes left, BYU got a triple, but the Lady Raiders went on a 7-0 run thanks to a second-chance layups from Maupin and N\u00fa\u00f1ez, as well as a three by Adlee Blacklock<\/a>. BYU scored a layup with 29 seconds left to maintain their lead at 40-34.<\/p>\n

Tech made two free throws to start the second half, but BYU hit a three in response. Maupin would answer with one from behind the arc before the Cougars made a layup for the 45-39 lead. The Lady Raiders would follow with four of the next six points, highlighted by a second-chance midrange shot from Malone, to cut the BYU lead to four. Out of the media timeout, BYU scored a three, but Collins made three free throws in a row right after. The Cougars went on a 6-2 run to close the third quarter with the 56-48 lead.<\/p>\n

BYU went on a 9-0 run in the final quarter before Texas Tech was able to score its first points at the 5:12 mark when Maupin made a second-chance layup. Maupin connected with two free throws to add to the run, but the Cougars answered with the next five points. With less than two minutes left, BYU made a layup and a free throw, then the Lady Raiders closed out the quarter with five points, all from Collins. BYU would hold on to win the game by a 73-61 score.<\/p>\n
