Hughes recorded a team-best 1.196 OPS during Tech’s 30 league games and hit .376.

Including the sites preview, Perfect Game also tabbed its 25-best draft prospects for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 drafts. Hughes was selected as the No. 5 prospect in the Big 12 and was named the third-best draft eligible offensive player in the league, while sophomore Jace Souza (No. 15) and freshman Linkin Garcia (No. 19) were named to the 2027 top-25 list.

True freshman Adam Hayes was named the ninth-best 2028 MLB Draft prospect and the fifth-best pitching prospect in the class of 2028.

Garcia’s honor comes after the freshman was named to the sites Top-100 Freshman around the country and was named one of Baseball America’s Top-25 Freshman in the country.

A native of California, Garcia projects as one of the top freshmen in the Big 12 Conference this season and arrives in Lubbock after a decorated 2025 season at A3 Academy down in the Tampa area. A top-100 recruit by Perfect Game, Garcia helped lead A3 to the 2025 PG High School/Academies title where he took home the events MVP honor.

Garcia hit an impressive .513 during the 2025 prep circuit with six home runs and 48 RBIs. He stole all eight bases he attempted and hit 11 doubles and three triples. During the 2024 prep season, Garcia hit .425 in 32 games with four home runs and 26 RBIs.

The Red Raiders other top 2027 MLB draft prospect, Souza, will look to make a sophomore jump in 2026 after being limited to just nine total games due to injury in 2025. A native of Hawai’i, Souza was the No. 2 prospect from the State of Hawai’i in the 2024 class and was a top-175 recruit overall after hitting .431 during the 2023 prep circuit.

Tech’s final top MLB draft prospect for the 2028 class, Hayes, was the top-pitcher in the State of Colorado and was the No. 3 overall player in the state. A native of Berthoud, Hays pitched to a 0.39 ERA during the 2024 calendar year and whiffed 23 batters in 18 innings in prep events. The righty walked just four batters and did not allow an extra-base hit, holding opponents to a 0.98 batting-average-against.

Perfect Game on Texas Tech:

“After a highly underwhelming season last year, Texas Tech looks to have a major bounce back this year. They will need contributions from everyone across the board. The rotation has a ton of new faces that will look to solidify themselves as reliable starters. The lineup has some key transfers and key returners that should help after losing some key players to the portal. Matt Quintanar is the main big name transfer coming over from Blinn after a highly productive year there. He hit .407 with 22 doubles and 15 home runs over at Blinn while being a mainstay behind the dish. Quintanar brings in an imposing bat that should produce right out the gate. I’d also expect to see Davis Rivers make a big jump in improvement this year. Caden Ferraro is another big transfer coming out of Blinn who hit 369 last year with 18 homeruns. His bat should make an immediate impact as well. Robin Villeneuve is also returning after he hit 365 with 12 home runs last year leading the team in hitting. Perhaps the main returning piece that will solidify this offense is Logan Hughes. He hit to a .327 average last year while slugging 19 home runs and should be getting Day 1 looks this year. More key returners such as Tracer Lopez, Jace Souza, Coleman Ryan will be set for making key contributions this year again. Linkin Garcia and Connor Shouse should also contribute out the gate. Texas Tech certainly has the offensive potential to win ball game and a lot of their success will be contingent upon that but figuring out the rotation will also be a key piece to success. Parker Hutyra, Jackson Burns, and Kayson Raineri are all slated to make key contributions to this rotation. Hutyra is coming off a strong Fall where he worked well into the mid-90s and is looking to be a mainstay within the rotation so long as he can stay healthy. Burns, who was up to 95-96 this past Fall is a big-time power arm that should contribute. Raineri, a transfer, will be 93-94 and can really pitch. Some younger arms include Adam Hayes, Connor Mohan and Logan Addison who should all see time this year. Overall, if Tech can produce offensively and get a grasp on how their pitching shapes up, they should be an extremely competitive team within the Big 12 and beyond.”

[16
168,170,169
0":"post-135420","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-lubbock","8":"tag-lubbock","9":"tag-lubbock-headlines","10":"tag-lubbock-news
["GET
