CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 The Coastal Bend Blood Center is urging residents to donate blood ahead of expected cold weather, citing a critical shortage of blood type O.<\/p>\n
“We are in critical need of blood type O right now,” \u00a0Coastal Bend Blood Center’s Ashley Ramirez said. “If you are blood type O, please schedule your lifesaving appointment.”<\/p>\n
Ramirez says the donation process takes about 20 to 25 minutes, with the actual blood draw lasting seven to eight minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Walk-ins are welcome, and donors must be at least 17 years old with a photo ID.<\/p>\n
“Before severe weather hits, we want to make sure we have enough blood on our shelves,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
While blood type O is the most urgent need, officials stress all blood types are needed daily.<\/p>\n
