Her landlord, Thunder Sun Homes, Inc., failed to pay utility bills even though Tucker paid her rent.

Yearlong problems continue

The petition states that “for more than a year now, and through no fault of her own, without avenue for recourse, Mrs. Tucker has endured several disconnections of water and electricity at her mobile home because her landlord, Thunder Sun Homes, Inc., has not paid the utility bill.”

KCBD first reported on issues at this park and other Thunder Sun properties across the South Plains in January 2025.

That is when Tucker’s neighbor, Ida Bosque, came to KCBD complaining of no heat and said it was difficult to reach management.

“I called, and I called, and they wouldn’t answer, so I did the maintenance request two or three times and I said this is the third day and I still don’t have any electricity,” Bosque said.

One year later, the problems continue.

Bosque and Tucker said they were current on their bills, but Thunder Sun wasn’t. That left them without electricity on multiple occasions.

The petition states Ms. Tucker and her son lived without power nine separate times in 2025.

In November, Tucker told us over the summer, she spent a month sleeping in her car because her home became too hot. She said her 14-year-old son stayed with his father during that time.

LP&L said Thursday it was following the law when electric providers requested the disconnections.

Now that Hays has granted the temporary restraining order, LP&L will notify the electricity providers that it’s been required to reconnect service.

A hearing on this matter is set for Feb. 4.

The KCBD Investigates Team has contacted the park’s three retail electricity providers.

A Reliant spokesperson sent us this statement, “Reliant has not issued any active disconnection notices for the property at this time. Given the weather, we don’t plan to issue disconnection notices for the property until temperatures return to normal. We will post notices at the property again before taking any action.”

Residents told us they saw a disconnection notice from LP&L letting them know that one of their electricity providers, Mi Texas, had requested a disconnection of services which would be completed by January 20.

The KCBD Investigates Team contacted Mi Texas and were told the company sold that entity in 2025 to another electric company doing business as Think Energy.

A spokesperson for Mi Texas told us, “Upon receiving your email, we alerted the entity we sold this retail electric provider to hoping they can address this situation quickly. Separately, I asked our team if there was anything we can do to assist, but unfortunately, we are not set up to serve customers in Lubbock anymore.”

The KCBD Investigates Team has not heard back from Think Energy or Ambit Energy, the other electric retail provider who requested a disconnection at the park.

Previous coverage

Tenant Troubles: Lubbock mobile home residents without heat as dangerous cold weather approaches

Thunder Sun’s bankruptcy case dismissed for second time

Tenant Troubles: Thunder Sun Inc. refiles for bankruptcy after first case dismissed

Thunder Sun Homes tenants get water restored after court threat

Tenant Troubles: Thunder Sun Homes files for bankruptcy

Tenant Troubles: City of Lubbock deems apartment units unlawful to occupy, issues citations to property owner

Tenant Troubles: Tenants say landlord failed to pay electricity bill for nearly two weeks

KCBD Investigates Tenant Troubles: Tenants across South Plains complain of water shut-offs, overflowing sewage, leaks

Copyright 2026 KCBD.
