EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The lockdown at Lamar Elementary School, Wiggins Middle School, and El Paso High School in Central has lifted, according to the school district. <\/p>\n
El Paso Independent School District officials said the lockdown at the schools followed an incident in the area.<\/p>\n
Officials previously confirmed that all students and staff are safe, and the lockdown was being implemented as a precautionary measure. <\/p>\n
In an emailed statement to KFOX14\/CBS4, EPISD said, <\/p>\n
Earlier today Lamar Elementary was briefly placed in Lockdown protocol out of an abundance of caution due to activity in the surrounding area. The protocol has been lifted, and regular class schedules are in place.<\/p>\n
Officials added, “The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.” <\/p>\n
The El Paso Police Department said that at around 1:55 p.m., officers responded to a shots-fired call near Brown and Toddler Street, which is in the area.<\/p>\n
KFOX14\/CBS4 is working to confirm if this is what triggered the lockdown.<\/p>\n
