CANUTILLO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 All schools in the Canutillo district will open earlier on Monday and Tuesday for students who need a warm place to wait for classes to start. <\/p>\n

According to the Canutillo Independent School District, all 10 school campuses will open their cafeterias at 6 a.m. both days to be used as warming paces, as temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend.<\/p>\n

“We know working families rely on our schools to provide more than just instruction. They also look to us to provide a safe environment for their children,” said Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego. “By opening our cafeterias early, we can offer families a warm and safe space for students who arrive before the regular school day during these very cold conditions.”<\/p>\n

The district stated that while students wait for class to start, they will be supervised by staff and served breakfast. <\/p>\n

The district emphasized that classes will be scheduled as usual.<\/p>\n

However, the district said it will also be looking at how the weather evolves over the weekend and will update families and the community of any schedule changes. <\/p>\n
