Many Central Texans awoke Sunday morning, January 25, to a coating of sleet and slick icy roads, with local and state officials warning residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. In the wake of Texas’ wintry conditions, several businesses and facilities in and around Austin have temporarily closed or reduced service hours<\/a> on Sunday. Here’s a look at some of those temporary closures and disruptions.<\/p>\n

BookPeople<\/p>\n

Texas’ largest independent bookstore, BookPeople, confirmed its location in downtown Austin would be closed on Sunday<\/a> due to the storm, encouraging customers and staff to stay off the roads and to “cozy up with a book” at home.<\/p>\n

“Dear beautiful customers, we will be CLOSED tomorrow 1\/25 so as to ensure that our staff (and you!) stay safe off those icy roads,” the post read in part. “Cozy up with a book y’all and keep reading.”<\/p>\n

Cedar Park Public Library, Rec Center<\/p>\n

Just northwest of Austin in Cedar Park, city officials confirmed both the Cedar Park Public Library and the Cedar Park Rec Center would remain closed<\/a> through Sunday, alongside city-run pools. Any information related to operations on Monday, January 26, would be shared at a later time once officials have those details.<\/p>\n

First Light Books<\/p>\n

Fellow Austin indie bookseller First Light announced it would be operating under reduced hours on Sunday, with an early evening closure planned. While the business is typically open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays, it would instead close at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

“Come by if you can do so safely, and take care of your neighbors,” owners shared.<\/a><\/p>\n

Kerbey Lane<\/p>\n

Beloved Austin-founded cafe Kerbey Lane announced all of its locations would have a delayed opening on Sunday<\/a>, now opening at 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

la Barbecue<\/p>\n

Michelin Star-winning barbecue joint la Barbecue<\/a> confirmed its restaurant would be closed on Sunday due to unsafe road conditions.<\/p>\n

“The roads are too icy for us to get to and from work today,” the business wrote. “So for safety reasons we are all staying home.”<\/p>\n

Randalls<\/p>\n

Grocery chain Randalls confirmed<\/a> it had reduced operating hours this weekend in light of the wintry weather, with the following Austin-area locations open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. instead:<\/p>\n

“Your safety – and our crew’s – always comes first,” the business wrote. “Please take care, stay safe, and look out for one another.”<\/p>\n

Sonic Drive-In locations in Georgetown<\/p>\n

Both Sonic locations in Georgetown<\/a> are closed on Sunday to help keep customers and crew members safe, the business wrote, adding: “Stay warm!!!”<\/p>\n

Surfing Crab<\/p>\n

Surfing Crab in San Marcos <\/a>shared it would be closed on Sunday to “ensure the safety of our employees and guests,” with plans to reopen on Monday.<\/p>\n

Texas State University facilities<\/p>\n

Several facilities on Texas State University’s San Marcos campus would be closed or reducing hours on Sunday due to the winter storm. Jones Dining Hall would be closed on Sunday, alongside the LBJ Student Center, the Campus Recreation Center and the Alkek Library.<\/p>\n

“Texas State will continue to monitor conditions,” officials added. “A decision regarding campus operations for Monday, Jan. 26 will be announced by 6\u00a0p.m. Sunday.”<\/p>\n

Round Rock Donuts<\/p>\n

The 100-year-old doughnut shop, famed for its Texas-sized doughnut<\/a>, announced its stores in Round Rock and Cedar Park are closed on Sunday and will reopen Monday for regular business hours.<\/p>\n
