Gail, a dedicated mother of three and librarian, was gunned down Oct. 4, 1999 in the parking lot of a Lake Orion, Michigan library, just minutes after the 48-year-old left work.<\/p>\n The shocking crime sparked a cross country investigation, revealing the love triangle and a trio of suspects willing to help Donna carry out the deadly attack.<\/p>\n Who Was Gail Fulton?\u00a0<\/p>\n To those who knew her, Gail was a kind and loving person, who was a committed to her family and Catholic faith.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cShe was brilliant, very smart,\u201d friend Sylvia Morales remembered. \u201cShe could do anything that she wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n During her senior year of high school, the Corpus Christi, Texas native met George while volunteering with a Catholic youth organization.<\/p>\n Although the pair went to separate colleges, they reconnected and married in 1975, just as George was embarking on a military career. Together, the couple traveled to his assignments, welcoming three children along the way.\u00a0<\/p>\n By 1993, after 18 years of service, George was ready to retire and moved his family back to Corpus Christi. Then, the\u00a0family moved once again to Lake Orion, Michigan after George landed a job in insurance sales.\u00a0<\/p>\n Gail Fulton is Shot to Death<\/p>\n It seemed as though the family may finally be able to put down roots and so Gail began a career as a librarian.<\/p>\n But her life was cut short on Oct. 4, 1999. Investigators learned Gail left the library after her shift and drove away, only to return to the parking lot minutes later because of car trouble.<\/p>\n According to Michael Bouchard of the Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Department, Gail\u2019s tire had been slashed which \u201craised even more concern that this was very targeted.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n RELATED: Teacher “Executed” At Home: Unpacking the Love Triangle & Shocking Threats<\/a><\/p>\n Surveillance footage captured Gail pulling back into the parking lot, just as another car pulled up and a figure got out and opened fire, shooting Gail three times. The shooter and two other people were seen riding in the unknown vehicle.<\/p>\n \u201cFor me it was like part of my heart was ripped out to be shot and killed like that, execution style, for a little tiny woman that would never expect anything bad to happen to her,\u201d Morales shared. \u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable to me.\u201d<\/p>\n George Fulton\u2019s Cross-Country Affair is Uncovered<\/p>\n Gail\u2019s husband and son Andrew arrived at the library and were given the devastating news.<\/p>\n \u201cThe husband didn\u2019t seem to be very emotional about the situation,\u201d Bouchard remembered.\u201cOften times when there\u2019s a death you look at the spouse as the first place to go.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n George and his son were taken back to the station, where they were interviewed separately. Although George told authorities there were no problems in his relationship with Gail, Andrew told investigators that his dad was having an affair.<\/p>\n After being confronted with the allegation, George admitted to having an affair with Donna, a businesswoman in Florida he\u2019d met several years earlier at a hotel bar. As the affair got underway, Donna arranged to hire George\u2019s company to give him an excuse to make frequent trips to Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n As Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Det. Sgt. Investigators later reached out to her and confirmed that she was in Florida when the shooting took place, seemingly giving her an unshakable alibi.<\/p>\n George told police that six months earlier he tried to end the affair, but Donna told him that she was pregnant with his child and dying of cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n As Gail\u2019s daughter Emily Fulton told police, just three months before Gail\u2019s death, George had arranged a meeting between the two women where Donna begged Gail to divorce George so that she could spend her final remaining months with him, asking Gail to then help George raise the child after her death.<\/p>\n \u201cThen Donna wanted to speak to my mother by herself,\u201d Emily explained. \u201cAnd so Donna and my mother were in the room alone together, and Donna told my mother, \u2018This won’t end until one of us is dead.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Heartbroken, Gail refused the arrangement and George decided to stay with his wife, hoping to make the marriage work.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cMy mother never brought it up again,\u201d Emily told Killer Relationship with Faith Jenkins. \u201cI know it may sound weird, we just went about our own lives and it just never got discussed again. There\u2019s a lot that goes on in there. I think a lot of it had to do with her faith, that when you\u2019re a Catholic, you don\u2019t get divorced. You marry for life.\u201d<\/p>\n Investigators Get Tip About New Set of Suspects<\/p>\n Through analysis of the surveillance footage, investigators determined that the suspect vehicle had been a newer Malibu four-door car with a broken tail light.<\/p>\n Yet, it was impossible to pinpoint the exact vehicle. Then, investigators received a tip from a man in Florida who claimed he\u2019d been contacted by his ex-girlfriend Sybil Padgett and her new boyfriend Patrick Alexander about carrying out a hit in Michigan. The tipster refused the job, but it gave detectives a new direction to investigate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
