As Houstonians prepared and hunkered down this weekend, memories of a freezing 2021 return. Generator Supercenter\u2019s Vice President, Steve Cruise, says trusting the power will stay on just isn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cRelying on utility is something that is becoming more and more in the past, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re seeing with our demand and our customers.\u201d Cruise said.<\/p>\n
Houstonians, he says, are taking matters into their own hands. \u201cThey have to get freedom from the grid. When you get cold weather situations like this, now it becomes life or death. We\u2019re doing everything we can to service our existing customers and help the new customers.\u201d He said. <\/p>\n
Cruise urges the public not to wait until the last minute. Houston has inclement weather year-round. Instillation for a generator takes 4 to 6 weeks. He says they require permits which need approval by the local government. New customers will have to get in line, he says unfortunately, there is no way around the permitting process. <\/p>\n
The cost of the Supercenter Generators range between $10,000 to $20,000.00. He says financing is available too, which has been a game changer, as wasn\u2019t the case 10 years ago. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf you just let it happen, you\u2019re going to be in an unfortunate situation. Being proactive when the storm is not upon us is the best way to handle this. Hurricane season\u2019s only 6 months away, let\u2019s get ahead of that and get it in now.\u201d He said. <\/p>\n
Cruise says most of the generators are powered by natural gas, with other generators offer solar portable options that have come a long way in the last 5-10 years that can keep peace of mind keeping alarm and refrigeration sources powered. Since 2005, they have seen an increase in sales year after year.
