CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) is warning residents about scammers impersonating law enforcement officers and federal agents in phone calls demanding money.<\/p>\n
CCPD says impersonating callers are threatening arrest, deportation, or driver\u2019s license suspension if they don\u2019t pay right away. The scammers then demand money through prepaid debit cards, wire transfers, credit cards, or cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n
Police say these calls can look convincing. Scammers may \u201cspoof\u201d official phone numbers so it appears CCPD is calling. Some even provide fake badge numbers or claim to know personal details, like the last four digits of a Social Security number.<\/p>\n
CCPD stresses that\u00a0real officers will never demand payment over the phone, ask for prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers, or threaten arrest for unpaid fines during a phone call.<\/p>\n
Residents are urged not to share personal or financial information with unknown callers and to be cautious of anyone using threats or high-pressure tactics.<\/p>\n
