LUBBOCK, TX \u2014 City officials once again reassured residents Monday that there is no such thing as the so-called \u201cSnow Thing<\/a>,\u201d despite a growing number of locals insisting that the denial itself feels \u201cextremely suspicious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no creature roaming Lubbock,\u201d a city spokesperson said in a brief statement. \u201cWhat people are experiencing is most likely wind, shadows, exhaustion, and the stress of being trapped indoors during severe winter weather.\u201d<\/p>\n

That explanation has done little to calm residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what it would want them to say,\u201d said one local, who claims to have seen the Snow Thing<\/a> standing motionless near a closed gas station around 2 a.m. \u201cIf it wanted to stay hidden, denial is step one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social media has been flooded with firsthand accounts from residents describing similar encounters. Many report seeing a tall, indistinct shape standing just outside the reach of streetlights, only to vanish when approached or observed for too long.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t chase you,\u201d said another resident. \u201cThat\u2019s the worst part. It just waits. Like it knows you\u2019ll freak yourself out eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others say the Snow Thing appears to react to attention. Several witnesses claim it becomes less defined the longer it\u2019s watched, as if the storm itself is slowly swallowing it back up.<\/p>\n

Local authorities reiterated that there have been no confirmed incidents, no physical evidence, and no reason for concern. Still, residents say the lack of answers has only made things worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it were fake, someone would\u2019ve caught it clearly by now,\u201d one commenter wrote. \u201cThe fact that no one has a clean photo is proof that it doesn\u2019t like being documented.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meteorologists have also weighed in, stating that blowing snow, extreme wind gusts, and low visibility can create the illusion of movement and shape, especially at night. They added that West Texas weather is \u201cnotoriously unsettling even on a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve lived here long enough to know the difference between wind and something watching me load groceries,\u201d said one resident. \u201cThe wind doesn\u2019t feel\u2026patient.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite official assurances, some locals say they\u2019re taking extra precautions, including avoiding late-night drives, keeping porch lights on, and refusing to look out windows \u201cwhen it’s feelin’ spooky-too-quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n

City officials maintain that Lubbock is safe and that residents should remain indoors only due to road conditions and freezing temperatures, not because of any supernatural threat…<\/p>\n

Still, as one resident put it:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it did exist, denying it would be the smartest thing it could do.\u201d<\/p>\n

And for now, that\u2019s enough to keep a lot of people checking the window one more time before bed.<\/p>\n
