The latest design hangs on the bottom left. (David Moreno | Fort Worth Report)

One of the best parts of the job is creating each year’s limited edition commemorative items, Myers said. The scarves and ties launched in 2013 have become popular, fast-selling souvenirs at the stock show and rodeo.

This year’s commemorative scarves were designed with help from interns from the Young Women’s Leadership Academy in Fort Worth ISD. The design features bucking horses, steers and horseshoes in red, blue and white.

“It has taken on a life of its own,” Myers said. “We use the theme for ideas, but (the scarf) is really one of those items we really can just be 100% creative with.”

The gentlemen are much more picky about the ties than the ladies are about the scarves, Myers jokingly said.

Amy Myers designed a 2023 souvenir poster in honor of the Fort Worth Stock Show’s longtime leader W.R. “Bob” Watt Jr. (Courtesy photo | Amy Myers)

With so many years spent designing themes for the stock show and rodeo, Myers finds it difficult to declare one her absolute favorite. One design that does hold a lot of sentimental value is a memorial poster she designed for longtime stock show leader W.R. “Bob” Watt Jr., who died November 2022.

Myers spent most of her childhood attending the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, as her father, Bill Royer, served as a longtime planning member for the event. Watts was a very close family friend and served as a mentor to Myers from a young age, she said.

“I was so nervous making that cover,” she said. “How do you do a fitting tribute to someone who meant so much to you? I put a lot into it.”

Even though the next Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is nearly a year away, Myers is already in the midst of researching and brainstorming theme ideas. It’s too early to share any concrete designs, she said, but early versions of the theme will begin to circulate in late April.

“Just be ready to be surprised,” she said with a laugh.

David Moreno is the arts and culture reporter for the Fort Worth Report.
