{"id":139493,"date":"2026-01-27T05:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T05:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/139493\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T05:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T05:26:08","slug":"organizations-work-to-increase-blood-donations-after-decline-due-to-winter-storm-in-san-antonio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/139493\/","title":{"rendered":"Organizations work to increase blood donations after decline due to winter storm in San Antonio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">SAN ANTONIO \u2013 PAM Health and Specialty Hospital San Antonio will host a blood drive during DreamWeek San Antonio from Tuesday, Jan. 27, to Friday, Jan. 30. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The drive was planned as part of DreamWeek, but it comes at a time when South Texas is in need of blood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Over the weekend, Roger Ruiz with South Texas Blood &amp; Tissue said several blood donation appointments were canceled due to the winter storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOver 200 donations have been lost either from blood drives being canceled or donors just not able to make their appointments,\u201d Ruiz said. \u201cWith one donation, three lives can be helped with that \u2014 three patients, and so, in reality, those 200 plus donations is 600 plus patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">CEO Jennifer West and Chief Nursing Officer Monique Hunter work for PAM Health and Specialty Hospital San Antonio. The hospital will partner with South Texas Blood &amp; Tissue for blood drives during DreamWeek.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cEvery day, we are taking care of critically ill patients, and these patients often need blood on a daily basis,\u201d Hunter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cDreamWeek is a great opportunity for us to partner with our community leaders and help out and help each other,\u201d West said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In addition to the blood drives, South Texas Blood &amp; Tissue will have its Heroes in Arms Event on Thursday, Jan. 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cAs part of DreamWeek, it highlights the importance of what we call our whole blood program,\u201d Ruiz said. \u201cHeroes in Arms is a select group of donors.
